I expect that the Canvas development team will soon be providing us with a "roadmap" on how and when they intend to improve rubrics. Rubrics was the #1 vote getter among the "Ideas and Themes" for product improvements and development. I would suggest that the instructor import the rubrics into a dedicated "development" course to work on them rather than go back into a myriad of old courses. The key would be to sit down and a fairly standard set of criteria that could be adapted for different assignments.

Students can "game" the system in a multitude of ways. There is no test security. Everything is "open book." There is no way to prevent cheating. This is the nature of the beast.

We have to assume that every assessment given remotely is "open book." There is no way to prevent students from accessing the materials.

LAACD is made up of nine colleges. You need to contact the support at the college you are attending (e.g. City, Mission, Pierce, Trade-Tech...) At all nine colleges, you will only be able to access the courses that you are currently enrolled in. At the end of each semester, you will lose access. Therefore, you will not see Fall 2022 or Winter 2023 classes. (They will NOT be in "All Courses.") If you don't see your Spring 2023 courses, then you need to email your professors. You can also contact your school's Admissions Office. You can also find Canvas Support on your college's website. Note that if you were not actively participating in your courses, you may have been excluded. The District requires professors to exclude students who are not attending class and/or submitting work on Canvas by May 7th. Again, contact your professors and/or the Admissions Office. Good luck!

@KristenRoye Have you organized your course content into unit or weekly modules? Some of my classes have lots of discussions. However, I never ever click on Discussions, and I have disabled "Discussions" from my students Course Navigation Bar. The students and I both access them from our modules as well as our To-Do Lists. To be honest, I think it's a waste of time to try to reorganize the discussions. It's not necessary.

Bottom line: Safari and Canvas are NOT compatible. They don't work well together. They never have. Try changing your browser to Firefox or Chrome.

The short answer is "no." You can't limit module access to a limited number of students. Either the module is published and open to all or it is unpublished. This question has come up many times. Perhaps there is a way with "Mastery Paths," but I don't have any experience or know-how about Mastery Paths.

Hi @JAYDENLAMB, The easiest way to do this is to go into each course and click on Grades. There you will see the label "Missing" next to any missing assignment or quiz. You will need to do this for each of your classes.

The short answer is that you can't delete it. It is permanent. If you are a student, I recommend that you contact your instructor, explain your situation, and request that he or she reopen the assignment for you.

I'm a professor at a community college, and I ran into difficulties while traveling abroad with my college's new 2-step authentication program for emails. When I change out the SIM card in my phone, I lose access to my email account. When I travel abroad this summer, I'm hoping that I'll still have access to Canvas, though. We'll see!

HI @BeccaBestul, you are not alone in your frustration, but there is hope. Last month, Instructure gave us the opportunity to vote on which "themes and ideas" we would like the designers to tackle next. Rubrics, by far, was the number one vote getter. We should start to see improvements in the next few months.

Hi @MeilinaR, If you try to "randomly assign" students now, I believe that brand new groups would be formed. It's really very, very quick and simple for you to place those students into groups. Just drag each name over to a group. I'm guessing that it would take three to five minutes for you to complete this task.

In all honesty, it might just be easier for the instructor to start with fresh pages. Messing with a lot of old HTML coding sounds like a nightmare. Personally, I would start anew and type in the information. They just need to bit the bullet and do it. Then, of course, it will be easy to import the content into new course shells in future semesters.

One common source of confusion is the distinction of "sections" vs. "groups." In short, "sections" are used to differentiate students. "Groups" are like teams; they are meant for collaborative work. I would suggest looking into creating "sections."

Here's the difference: Light green (washed out) - The item (e.g. assignment, discussion or quiz) already has student submissions and cannot be "unpublished." Medium green - The item can still be unpublished. It either doesn't yet have student submissions or it's a page.

Make sure to have your students access their course materials through Modules. I would advise you to disable Assignments, Discussions, Pages, and Quizzes in the students' Course Navigation Bar

Here's the deal: In Canvas, the term "Assignments" refers to two different things: A particular kind of graded task in which the student submits an answer in a text entry box or uploads a file AND Anything that receives a grade (i.e. Assignments, Discussions, and Quizzes) As an instructor, you are going to see every graded item in your Gradebook listed under Assignments. Why does Canvas do this? Because every graded item shows up in Assignments, the instructor is able to put all of the graded items into "Assignment Groups" and then "weight" the Groups for grading.

Is there any reason to have the same questions on the practice exam and the graded exam? Even for an exam given in a classroom on paper, I'd want to have different questions. Otherwise, the students are just going to focus on the practice exam questions and not bother to study the rest of your course material.
