if i set up new course settings now for semester 2, will I lose the ability to modify semester 1's grades?

Hi @gcunradi - That's a great question! It depends on the availability dates your school has established. (How do I change the start and end dates for a course?) If you'd like specifics, I encourage you to connect with your local Canvas administrator by submitting a ticket. How do I get help with Canvas as an instructor? 

You are likely able to create new coursework without affecting the previous semester. They're completely separate! However, I think the greater question here is how long you'll have access to your course and how long you can make adjustments to grades.
