Hi @skohne ...

I'm not sure if you are asking about Notifications within Canvas or the notifications within this new Community website (which is all new to many of us since it just went "live" this week).  Here are some things to help get you started:

• How do I set my Canvas notification preferences as a student?

If you are wondering about notifications for things here in the new Community website, you would want to click on your avatar image at the top right corner of any page here in the Community and then click on "My settings".  From there, click on the "Subscriptions & Notifications" tab, and then click on the "Notification Settings" tab below there.  Be sure to click on "Save" at the bottom of the page in case you make any changes.
