how can I upload a question bank?

Hi  @llincoln1   Where is the question bank currently?  Generally to upload a question bank into Canvas you need to have the QTI file for that question set, then in Canvas you go to Settings>Import Course Content and under content type select QTI Zip file.  When selected you are given the opportunity to add the questions to a new bank or to an existing question bank.

If the questions are coming from a publisher, you may be able to get the QTI file and if you need questions from an assessment in one Canvas course added to the bank of another, you can export the quiz or quizzes into a QTI file then upload them into a bank.  If the questions are currently in something like a Word document you would want to use a program like Respondus 4.0 to convert the Word file into a QTI file then upload this to Canvas or go from the Respondus interface directly into Canvas.

Thank you! We don't have Respondus. The questions are in Word although easy to make them a .csv file if that works. Is there really not a workaround for this?

Not that I am aware of any  @llincoln1   Respondus 4.0 does have a 30 day free trial so it may give you time to do what you need and consider whether a longer license would be worth it.  Respondus does have some good videos explaining the formatting of a Word doc to import into the program.  I'm not sure if there is any free alternative to this program, but I have not heard of any way of getting a CSV file to a QTI file or a CSV file directly into Canvas.  The value of the QTI format is that it indicates for an LMS the stem versus response options and which of the answer is correct.

I am having difficulty with uploading a question bank using the new quiz format.  I eventually found the right sequence of clicks to find the import function (this should not be so difficult).  However when I upload the Respondus 4.0 QTI zip file I get the following error

Error: there was a problem importing your file.

The qti import failed.\nERROR: Manifest not found at line:/home/docker/.gem/ruby/2.5.0/gems/qti-2.3.0/lib/qti.rb:36:in `manifest_path'

Any suggestions?
