The Instructure Community will enter a read-only state on November 22, 2025 as we prepare to migrate to our new Community platform in early December. Read our blog post for more info about this change.
I have read some past postings on Best Practices for subaccounts and managing LMS permissions. I thought I might post again a question about how other schools are managing permissions.
Our school requires all faculty to use the Canvas Gradebook and Syllabus. Monitoring this requirement is a challenge for our Chairs and Deans. We are hoping to create a read only role that would allow reviewing of gradebooks and syllabi for courses within sub-accounts. I am able to get close but this requires read access to all the course content. Our faculty are very protective of their content and do not want administrator looking at this without their consent.
Do any other schools have this requirement and how does your administration monitor grades and syllabi?
Thanks
Ed
We have this very same issue! Our administrators are able to search as courses and then view as the teacher. This way, there is nothing tied to the faculty's accounts showing that an administrator has access. This is a behind the scenes permission that will have to come by creating admin accounts for each of them.
