How do I delete old Canvas courses I no longer need?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Hello @stheberge ...
Are you a student or an instructor? Depending on your role at your school, the answer will vary.
If you are a student, you can use the information in this Guide to "favorite" courses on your Dashboard: How do I customize my Courses list as a student?. Students aren't usually able to delete courses entirely on their own. You can talk with your school's local Canvas administrator to see what policies they have in place for deleting courses from your account.
If you are an instructor, you may be able to delete courses following the steps in this Guide: How do I delete a course as an instructor? However, your school Canvas administrators may have configured settings that do not allow you to delete courses on your own. You would need to contact your local Canvas administrator at your school to learn what policies they have in place for keeping/removing courses in your school's Canvas environment. However, you can use this Guide to "favorite" courses: How do I customize my Courses list as an instructor?
I hope this information will be of help to you, Sarah. Sing out if you have any other questions about this...thanks!
Hi Sarah and welcome to the community!
If you go into the course Settings, you should see an option in the right-hand list of buttons to delete the course.

Hello, I am a student using canvas and want to delete old course grades from the "View Grades" list that I go to from my dashboard. I already got the classes I want to appear on my dashboard by favoriting them but every time I go to grades it shows all my old classes and canvas tutorials and its extremely annoying. Is there any way to delete these courses from the drop down grade list or at least hide them so it only shows the 5 or so classes I want?
PS this website really confuses me I have no idea how to make a blog post so I just searched this and replied hopefully this works thanks
Hi there, @CollinMonesmith …
Unfortunately, I’m not aware of any way to remove those grades from that screen…unless your school was to completely remove you from those past courses. I do not know what your school policy may be as far as keeping you enrolled in past courses. That would be something that you’d have to discuss with folks at your school. We here in the Community wouldn’t have that answer for you. There may be reasons that your school does not remove you from past courses, but that would be something to ask when you talk with folks at your school. Good luck in your searches, Collin.
