Grouping question banks into one bank with sub-banks

I'm hoping there is a way to group my question banks into categories, but I haven't found it.

For example, I created the following banks:

I really like the ability to use Groups to pull a certain number of questions from each bank. This ensures that students will receive a similar number of questions in each group, but not every test will be the same.

But when I add a Question Group, I end up with way too many Banks to pull from:

Does anyone know if it is possible to create categories for Question Banks? Or, is there a "vote for this" request for this somewhere?

Some way to organize questions within banks would be incredibly helpful.

The way we tried to deal with this in an advanced physics course I'm supporting is that we assigned each student learning objective a code (1A, etc.) in the field that comes before the question type (e.g. multiple choice, etc.) and then used that to label questions that addressed that concept. Because the banks alphabetize questions by this field, that groups them.

I think if we were to do it again, however, I think I'd suggest we create a question bank per unit instead of by course because navigating within a bank of 50+ questions becomes quite cumbersome when constructing quizzes.

Similar to what Jen said above, I moved away from grouping by unit or topic and into banking by standard or outcome. I had 40+ banks by the end of the year, but each one was aligned to a single outcome for standards-based grading and I could find specific items when I was building comprehensive items.

The added benefit is that I could set up banks by Outcome for general use (1.1 GEN) vs test-use only (1.1 TEST). When I made quizzes for formative checks, I could use Question Groups on the Quiz to pull n-number of items from the general bank so students could retest with valid results, getting a different blend each time. Test items were saved for chapter/unit tests and finals only.

I have been reviewing older questions here in the Canvas Community, and I stumbled upon your question.  I thought that I would check in with you because I noticed that we have not seen any new activity in this topic since June 5, 2019.  (Also, the reply that you posted on January 29, 2019 @ 6:13 p.m. just points back to this topic and not to another location here in the Community.  Did you mean to direct people somewhere else?)  It looks like you've gotten a couple replies from  @jdick1  and  @bbennett2 .  Did either of their responses help to answer your question?  Or, are you still looking for some help and/or feedback on your original question?  If you feel that either Jen's or Brian's response has helped to answer your question, please feel free to mark either of those replies as "Correct".  However, if you are still looking for some help with this question, please let us know by posting a message below so that someone from the Community might be able to help you out.  For the time being, I am going to mark your question as "Assumed Answered" because there hasn't been any new activity in this topic for a while.  However, that won't prevent you or others from posting additional questions and/or comments below that are related to this topic.  I hope that's alright with you, Lee.  Looking forward to hearing back from you soon.

I've used the "alphabetize bank names" strategy, but I suspect the core of the original question (which is the same as mine) is to get a feature where there could be groups within groups, so that when I'm looking for only banks related to XYZ, I don't have scroll through a ton of other unrelated banks in the process. I could just collapse the menu for all the "105" course material when I'm building for "110".

Also, since some banks are mine and others have come from publishers, the names are not in order (unless I go through and manually rename them all one by one ... ugh!) It would be REALLY great to just bundle them up by topic/outcome/course or whatever. This would be even MORE super great if I could then be able to download the bundle into a single archive file and give it to colleagues at different schools.

Like: "Everything on the topic of relativity." ... and then sub-grouped into "beginner class", "intermediate class" and "advanced class", and then specific problem types, etc. etc.

And to expand on the concept (no pun intended), I wish more Canvas structures allowed for groups within groups ... assignments, modules, studio, pages ... the "files" section does it, but nothing else that I've seen. I realize that can get complex, but I'd appreciate the freedom to go there.
