When you set up the assignment, you will go down to a block below where the dialog box is.  There are several things you will need to consider and click on those that apply. 

Points?  assign points

Submission type?  how do you want them to submit.  I always to file upload, but there are other options.

If you want a due date, drop on down the the bottom and set you date and time.
