The Instructure Community will enter a read-only state on November 22, 2025 as we prepare to migrate to our new Community platform in early December.

We need to make sure that teachers do not rename their courses, because of other systems working to pull data from Canvas. I can't find any information on which Permission I could remove so that the teacher could not edit the course name.
@rachel_wester , this is not actually a permission; it's a setting. In your admin account, navigate to Settings and scroll down to the checkboxes that appear after the Account Settings fields. These are known as the Restriction Settings. The first option you'll see there is "Don't let teachers rename their courses." Enable that checkbox, and click Update Settings to save the change. For additional guidance please refer to How do I manage the options in the Account Settings tab?
We are giving the Canvas Admins area a little bit of love (especially questions that are really, really old) and just want to check in with you. This will also bring this question new attention.
Were you able to find an answer to your question? I am going to go ahead and mark this question as answered because there hasn't been any more activity in a while so I assume that you have the information that you need. If you still have a question about this or if you have information that you would like to share with the community, by all means, please do come back and leave a comment. Also, if this question has been answered by one of the previous replies, please feel free to mark that answer as correct.
