Is there a way to limit group sign ups or calander sign ups to a section

While you can assign a group project to a specific section, the groups on the People page are visible to everyone and so self-enrollment can't be limited.

For calendar sign-ups, yes, I believe this is possible.  Click the "Select Calendars" button on the event creation pop-up and then expand the black triangles to choose specific sections of a course that will have access to the sign-up sheet.  I think that should do it, but haven't tested this fully.
