Peer Reviews not automatically assigning

For two of my courses at two different institutions, Canvas wasn't automatically assigning peer reviews, despite my following all the instructions to set up the assignment to do so. My poor students were wondering what was happening, and it set us all back.

Seems like other users have had similar issues this year. 

Any fixes? Updates?

I have not heard of any reported issues.  There are a couple of components which can affect it though.  

• Did you set Peer Reviews to be assignment automatically? 
  If not, then the system need you to assign them.
• Did you have a Due Date on the Assignment?
  By default Peer Reviews are assigned on the Due Date for the Assignment
• Did you specify a date in the Peer Review settings for when to assign them?  
  This is a secondary option of specifying the date for automated assigning of Peer Reviews to happen
• MOST IMPORTANT - When using dates to automatically assign peer reviews, had students already submitted their assignment?
  The automated process will only assign peer reviews for students who have already submitted their assignments at the time.  So if you set it to automatically assign peer reviews on Dec 4th at 5:00 pm, but no one has submitted by then, no peer reviews will be assigned.  And if only half your class has submitted by then, only those students get set up for peer review.

So... I did every one of those things and checked my assignments at least three times to make sure I had done them all. And Canvas still didn't assign the peer reviews. *shrug*

This has been happening to me over the last several months (and has been reported in threads for years). Every automatic peer review assignments i have set up since this summer has failed to automatically assigned the reviews. I have to assign the reviews manually every time, usually after receiving dozens of complaints from students. Why is this marked as resolved?

We ran into this too and it looks like if there's no due date at all on either the assignment or the peer review "assign reviews" date then this button doesn't do anything.

Also the due date has to be in the past and more than 50% of students have to have submitted, as mentioned by an earlier reply. A due date in the future still results in this button silently doing nothing.

It would be nice if there was some messaging that came up as to why peer reviews couldn't be distributed. I'm not sure why the due date is blocking manual distribution.

I have done all of these things and the peer reviews are still not being assigned. What next? I selected automatically assign peer reviews, 99% of my students have submitted their assignments, I set both due dates, but the peer reviews are still not assigned.

I have 1) set Peer Reviews to be assignment automatically; 2) a Due Date on the Assignment; and 3) not specified a particular date in the Peer Review settings for when to assign them, but I am still having problems with Canvas automatically assigning the Peer Reviews and needing to go in to manual assign them after student complaints. 

I've noticed anecdotally that I never have this problem when 100% of students submit their assignment on time.  I only have a problem with the automatic assignment not assigning Peer Reviews automatically if a few students have not submitted the assignment on-time, but it's not 50% as mentioned in a previous response.  It seems if 20-40% of students do not submit the assignment timely (which unfortunately happens quite frequently with my 8 week condensed online class), then the Peer Review won't assign automatically.
