Separating group media submissions by submitters

Hello Canvas community,

We have an instructor who created a group assignment (thinking this would help him assign different date times to different students) for oral presentations in a French class. Unfortunately, this means (of course) that each student who made a new submission overwrote the student who had submitted immediately before them. We're trying to find any way that all the submissions could be "recovered" with some way to identify which student submitted it. Any ideas? We've already determined that group submissions (at least group media submissions) do not appear in the Account->Files->Submissions folder, so they can't be recovered that way, and the Submission Details link only shows you the latest submission (as you'd want for a real group assignment).

Hi  @solomon_klein  - While I normally work with faculty who have students submit files rather than media assignments, for the sake of clarity are you certain that there is nothing under the drop-down menu for previous submissions to the group, such as what is shown under the Evaluate Multiple Submissions heading in this online lesson: How do I view the details of a submission for a student in SpeedGrader? ?  Normally, while a second group submission seemingly overwrites the first one, the first one(s) should be seen as "previous submissions" within SpeedGrader....no?  Again, I may be mistaken about this for media submissions.

If you do spot them as previous submissions, I suppose one method is--since it's an oral presentation--might be to identify the speaker.  Obviously, that's quite labor-intensive, but unfortunately the basic answer to your real question is "no" (alas).  I encourage you to check out some of this comments (and the Feature Idea link) to a similar question posed awhile ago:  Is there a way to see which student submitted for a group? 

But the reality is that there is no simple way to identify who submitted something, I'm afraid.

Hi Ken,

Yes, all the submissions are available in the previous submission dropdown, and luckily the instructor instructed the students to state their full names at the beginning of the submission, so most of them are identifiable (albeit with more work than the instructor would like). Unfortunately, it looks like a few students neglected to do so, so what we may have to do is try to match up student Access Reports with times of submissions and hope that the time differences between the few students who didn't say their names are sufficient to confidently identify them.
