Speed grader & Manual v Automatic grading

Ahoy,

Does using speedgrader ever change the grading behavior from a default of "automatic" to "manual?" We have the rubrics linked to assignments with the correct setting to be used for grading, but I know that's a different idea than changing the policy about releasing grades.

Maybe a bigger question is, aside from the clicks it takes for an individual assignment in the grade book menus to go against the default of "automatic grading," are there any other workarounds that someone may be finding accidentally?

I know that speedgrader has the option to mute/hide visibility of the column, but I haven't seen a manual override.
