Cheers, @JeffW !! I think this statement is super important: When new courses are added by your school and students are enrolled, the main thing to be concerned about (in my experience) is going to be whether or not the course uses a late/missing policy. If the grade book is set up to deduct points or apply a grade to assignments with no submissions after the due date, that will inadvertently apply a grade to assignments if they are imported with due dates in the past. That gives me something to look for if it does go wrong. I'm trying to acculturate the university to these tools asap along with taking the time to properly review the created copy prior to publishing. I didn't want the fact that students are already enrolled at the moment of course creation to undermine the whole purpose of the adjust dates feature. 😲 Since the tool is supposed to align the due and availability dates, it would be disheartening of the shift triggered those zeros. I appreciate your insight here! Thank you. Stacy

Ahoy all. I have a very particular concern over this NOTE on the training page regarding adjusting dates in a course copy: It is recommended to shift due dates of imported content before students are enrolled in the course. If students are enrolled before course content is imported with due dates, students may not be able to submit work to those imported assignments. When our courses are created via the registrar, the students go in at that moment. Adjust dates is probably the most important time and consistency savers. What has been your experience with this? Do faculty really have to go in and change something on the assignment? If so, what would they change so students could submit? Should I simply tell them to not adjust dates or remove the due dates and then use the CidiLabs Multi-Tool to adjust dates? Thank you for any guidance.

These are the tasks that I don't want to have to wait to do because the original content depends on someone else's timeline. (Ah, nothing like group projects in the "real world.") With blueprinting, I think it's the same that it won't touch my events or organization of people. Fair winds. Stacy

Thank you. Yep. You're right. The difference is between syllabi that were created with the help of Design Plus and those that use Canvas RCE without the integration. Something like this might be beneficial in the ideas area.

Ahoy, So, the awesome search capabilities in Announcements isn't working on the Announcement index page for me. It IS working within the individual announcements themselves, so I can find keywords and students' replies if I'm looking at an individual announcement. What am I missing? Thank you, Stacy

Ahoy all, I feel like I've done something wrong or it's counterintuitive. Issue: Posting announcements is sending to my external email but not to my internal Canvas Inbox. I thought the internal notice was a default. My searches for help are coming up empty. I specifically turned on my notifications at course level JIC to send announcements created by me and others immediately. They're coming across externally as expected. I checked with my beta students, and they're not getting notified there, either. Am I 100% wrong that these aren't pushed internally? Thank you, Stacy

Good morning, Here's the issue: After changes were made in a quiz, and tested in 2 courses, they're not updating for students' views though they look fine everywhere else. We updated 2 questions in a single quiz. These questions are in a group. These questions are connected to a bank. These questions were appropriately updated in the bank by hitting the save button. We accepted the changes to the quiz itself when we were prompted to do so with that orange-red notice. These questions appear CORRECTLY in the instructor's view, using the preview mode. These questions do NOT appear corrected/updated in the students' view. (Both the test student and actual students' views as they are taking the quiz) In a course copy which had NO students, we did these exact same steps. The students' view (test student) updated. This leads me to think that something about the fact that students had already taken it means that it didn't actually update anything. Now, we were never prompted in the settings of the precise quiz itself to re-grade (e.g. by giving the point even to those who got it wrong, etc.) as we are when we change questions that aren't linked to a bank. This also leads me to believe that this is then a missing step between synching the bank to that actual quiz in spite of the fact that we were given the orange notice in the quiz itself to accept the changes. How do we fix this, please? Thank you.

Ahoy, I need to be able to force a direct download of a file on a Canvas content page without it sending them to a different page first. It's very important 1) not to have them navigate away from this page, even if it does open in a new window; 2) ensure they have a local copy. I don't care about them being able to preview on the page or not (i.e. I know where that feature is). The solution to force the download that I found in the community said to delete the "?wrap=1" in the html. This didn't work for me. Cheers.

Ahoy, Checking on something: My understanding when allowing students to edit a course page is that, if more than one person is editing at the same time, the person who saves it last will overwrite the other's contribution. Is that correct? Blue skies.

Ahoy all, The situation: I just updated a rubric, which was attached to a slew of assignments in several courses. As expected, I had to create a new version. I was then able to replace in the matching assignments via "Find Rubric." As is correct, I was able to navigate through all of the courses and locate the proper rubric. The problem: I went into another course to update to the corrected rubric, which required the Find Rubric button. The list of courses I could look in no longer has the one I need. What went wrong, and how do I fix it? Blue skies, Stacy

Ahoy Kelley, Many thanks. I thought so! In at least one case, that didn't happen. I specifically kept the course settings, but it still stripped the course card image. It didn't happen in all of them - I had a series of 4 to do in a row. I copy at least 4 every quarter. I dislike anomalies in such cases! Maybe it was user error. Fair winds.

Ahoy, Does using speedgrader ever change the grading behavior from a default of "automatic" to "manual?" We have the rubrics linked to assignments with the correct setting to be used for grading, but I know that's a different idea than changing the policy about releasing grades. Maybe a bigger question is, aside from the clicks it takes for an individual assignment in the grade book menus to go against the default of "automatic grading," are there any other workarounds that someone may be finding accidentally? I know that speedgrader has the option to mute/hide visibility of the column, but I haven't seen a manual override. Blue skies.

Ahoy Leslie, These were my takeaways: If you want a merged course to have students who are in a section to only see those peers in a Discussion, you absolutely must create completely different discussions for a section and make sure that's the only section you have in the Assign To area. The instructor will see all discussions Students ONLY see the discussions in their course summary, etc. to which they're assigned. Having a user profile marked as "interact with only students in their section" doesn't let you get around this. Note: If I'm wrong about this, someone please correct me. Believe me, this is far far from ideal when setting up a cross-listed course. The front-end management is a hassle to create duplicate discussions for everything and make sure each section gets one (tip: find a naming convention that isn't confusing/intrusive for the student, but that cues instructors to the fact that each section has one), and if you want small groups in the sections, you need to be sure you set up your group sets on the people page with the check box for keeping groups within their own sections. Then, be prepared to manage any students who are late to register if you're doing small groups discussions with sections. Fair winds.

Thank you for being SO fast, James!!! I appreciate that. I was able to do an "act as user" after creating a dummy module. What was also important was for us to be able to test the Module Progress feature that we can insert with cidilabs design tools. James, we were also able to confirm that this bar updates so as not to show the additional discussions, too.

Ahoy all, Again in need of help for what students see with discussions differentiated by section. 1) we do everything in modules and show a module progression at the bottom of each page. 2) we have to have 1 discussion per section by the way Canvas works to keep only people in their own sections interacting. So, for every discussion question, there are 2 (or more) forums to group the cohorts. 3) we have to put BOTH (or more) discussions in a module, (which makes it very cluttered and confusing), for it to come up in the progress. What I can't test with a straight test student view: What happens with a student who has to progress through this module when they come across the discussion they haven't been assigned? Will they still see the screen as if it's the discussion or will the be told they don't have access? Thank you.
