When I type in students to the "Add People" window, a handful of my students' names are not recognized, although I am using the correct format for entering names:
"Doe, John S." <johnsdoe@gsu.ed>, "Smith, Jane M." <janemsmith@gsu.edu>
Rather than returning the student's name as "Doe, John S.", Canvas returns the email address for both the name and email. How can I get the system to recognize the student's name? I know this is a relatively minor issue, but the grade book alphabetizes by name. So, when the student's email is the "name," they show up in the wrong order (making quick-grading frustrating).
Note: This is only an issue for three students. The other 47 students' information processed correctly.
@srountree3 , it sounds like it might have to do with how the student's information was added on the admin side of things. My recommendation is to contact Canvas support at your Institution and see if they can tell why these three students are showing up differently compared to your other students. If you're not sure how to contact support at your institution, click on the Help link (top right) in Canvas and "Report a Problem." When you do this make sure and list all three student's whose names aren't coming up correctly.
Hope this helps!
Kona,
Thank so much for your response! The strange thing is, my university doesn't support Canvas; so, my entry into the "add people" field is the first time these names have been entered into Canvas (from GSU, anyway). Hence why it is so strange that the "Add People" function returns a name other than the one I entered.
I wonder if anyone else has encountered this issue who is also using Canvas outside of their institution's support.
Thanks again for your help!
Stephanie
