Summary
Canvas Credentials supports additional metadata fields aligned with the Open Badges 3.0 (OB3) standard. When OB3 is enabled at the org level, these fields are visible and editable for OB3-compliant issuers only.
The additional fields include:
- Credit Hour (e.g., 3.0)
- Field of Study (e.g., Business, Education)
- Human Code (e.g., CS101, PM-002)
- Specialization (e.g., Entrepreneurship, Finance)
Notes:
- Fields are optional and include validation to prevent incorrect input (e.g., “Credit Hour” must be a number).
- OB3 metadata is only visible to issuers using OB3, reducing unnecessary UI complexity.
- Tooltips provide guidance on the purpose and use of each field.
- For more information about how achievements are defined in Open Badges 3.0, see the official specification.
Each field includes short descriptions and links to the OB3 specification to support issuer understanding.
Change Benefit
This update ensures badges comply with OB3 metadata standards, enabling richer and more structured credential data. It helps recipients better communicate the academic or professional value of their achievements while keeping OB2 workflows unaffected and streamlined.
Feature Workflow
When OB3 is enabled at the organization level, an OB3.0 Specific Details section [1] displays in the Additional Info tab during badge creation or editing. Issuers can optionally complete any of the additional fields [2]. For more details related to the fields, click the Learn More link [3].
Note: Field data is saved and included in the badge’s metadata.
Issuers can view descriptions of each field.
Metadata field data displays in the badge Details page for badge recipients and viewers.
Note: If no information is added, these fields are blank for users.

Summary
Canvas Credentials supports additional OB3-compliant metadata fields during the badge awarding process, allowing issuers to provide richer context for each credential. These fields help align awarded badges with Open Badges 3.0 standards and are visible to recipients and viewers on public badge pages.
The additional fields include:
- Activity Start Date: The date when the learning or credential-related activity began.
- Activity End Date: The date when the activity ended.
- License Number: A professional or certification license number associated with the badge.
- Role: The position or title held by the learner during the activity.
These fields are optional, shown only in OB3 workflows, and include clear descriptions and validation to guide issuers.
Change Benefit
This update ensures OB3-compliant metadata is captured during badge issuance, adding transparency and credibility to awarded badges. It helps recipients and viewers better understand the full value of the credential while also improving clarity for issuers throughout the awarding process.
Feature Workflow
When awarding a badge, an OB3.0 section displays [1]. Issuers can enter information to optional fields [2]. To learn more about OB3, click the Learn how to use these fields link [3].
Note: These fields are optional and only display if OB3 is enabled at the Organization level.
The Learn to use these fields link opens a modal with descriptions.
In the Badge details view, field information displays for badge recipients and viewers.
Note: If no information is added, these fields are blank for users.

Summary
To improve Canvas LTI behavior during large-scale course management, Canvas Credentials offers an Auto-Sync option and an enhanced user interface for managing course copy settings.
This update includes:
- A Course Copy & Blueprint Settings section that groups related deployment toggles.
- An Enable Auto Group Sync After Course Copy toggle to automatically sync group and membership data when a course is copied.
- The description for the Copy Credentials Data from Canvas Course Template toggle is updated specifying that it applies to the destination course only.
Change Benefit
These enhancements make it easier for institutions to use Canvas Credentials at scale by reducing admin workload, eliminating sync delays for group data in copied courses, and preventing misconfigurations through clearer toggle behavior. Together, these updates improve scalability and reduce support friction for institutions managing large volumes of courses.
Feature Workflow
In the LTI Deployment Preferences, A Course Copy and Blueprint Settings section displays [1]. To ensure group and membership data is synced after a course copy, click the Enable Auto Group Sync After Course Copy toggle [2]. Additionally, admins can view the updated description for the Copy Credentials Data from Canvas Course Template toggle [3].
Note: The Enable Auto Group Sync After Course copy toggle is disabled by default.
