[ARCHIVED] Trust Relationship- Any Suggestions?

Hello Admins!

We are building a Trust Relationship with another school who uses Canvas. We are seeking any advice, procedure documents, and/or any suggestions you have based on your experience navigating Trust Relationships. The community has very little documentation about this and would love to use this discussion thread to compile information for future use.

Just wondering if you ever got anywhere with creating your trust relationship? We are beginning to go down a similar path and any help would be welcome!

Hi @stephanie_pope and @alannah_roach!   How did your Canvas trust process go?  Many schools (K-12) in our area are now using Canvas and we are interesting in creating a trust with them. Thank you for your insights!  Kori

@kschneider25 what are you hoping to accomplish in your trust relationship?  As far as I know, it is only for merging user accounts so it really would not make sense to have schools in the same area have one unless the teachers work in multiple schools.  We have two Canvas instances and have a trust relationship between the two so we can merge users between the two so they don't need to know which system has which of their courses.

Hi @nwilson7!  We looked into trusts with many of our partners before and have never gotten to the point of implementation.  One of our, large, K-12 partners is looking at Canvas and we feel a trust might be a good selling point since a large portion of their teachers and students also dual enroll with us.  It would be nice for their teachers and students to have the "one" course and "one" access account with us to ease confusion.

@kschneider25 If you have the dual enrolling, I could see it being beneficial.  I was just thinking like the k-12 district I came from, while just about everyone in the area used Canvas, students and faculty needed unique usernames to access all the other systems so it would have made no sense to have a trust relationship. (We did not have any dual enrolling, more just high mobility)

I was hoping files and other content could also be shared but that is not the case so it really is more for user management.  It has helped with our two instances though as users really don't know they are accessing different systems when they have courses on both.
