Update from Canvas: Media Processing Maintenance

I have been receiving Canvas update emails with the following content.

Title: Update from Canvas: Media Processing Maintenance ...

Message:

Hi Admins —
Our maintenance window specified 15-20 minutes of downtime.  It's looking like that will take just a bit longer, though it shouldn't bee too long past the 20 minute mark.  Media playback may work during the remaining time, but media upload will still be unavailable until maintenance is complete.  We'll let you know once the maintenance is complete.

And...

Hi Admins —
Tonight's maintenance event is complete. Your users can now access and use media services in Canvas as usual. We'll keep a close eye on things, but please do contact Support if you see anything amiss.

In the community or via google I couldn't find any information about which elements in Canvas this is related to. So I have the following questions:

• is this related to Arc?
• is this related to any images/media of the Canvas interface itself?
• is this related to any images/media added by users in courses?
• is this related to the issues mentioned in the discussion Disappearing Graphics ?

 @stelpstra , these are good questions and I’m not sure, but now interested, in the answers. Did you ever find out more about this? If not, my recommendation is to contact your CSM or Canvas Support and see if they can explain more of what these messages mean.
