Updated Features

Post-Registration User Defined Field (UDF) Updates via API

Summary

Canvas Catalog supports editing User Defined Fields (UDFs) through the API after learner registration is complete. This capability enables updates to information such as addresses, phone numbers, and license numbers that become available later in the learner lifecycle.

Change Benefit

This enhancement streamlines data management and reduces reliance on manual updates or external workarounds. Institutions can maintain accurate and compliant learner records while improving automation across student information systems and compliance workflows.

Feature Workflow

Administrators and integration partners can update UDF values through Catalog’s API at any stage of the student lifecycle. Once submitted, these updates automatically display within Catalog records and API responses.

Additional technical guidance is available in the Catalog API documentation

Summary

Throughout the entirety of the Catalog product, every instance of Canvas Credentials has been replaced with Parchment Digital Badges, reflecting our official transition to the integrated credentialing framework announced by Parchment.

Change Benefit

This update strengthens product identity within the Parchment Award family and supports a cohesive credentialing experience across the Instructure ecosystem.
