Assistance Needed: Enabling and Activating Canvas Commons in Global Navigation

Dear Canvas Community,

I am reaching out as the administrator of the Greenwood International School (GIS) Canvas LMS instance (https://gis-ae.instructure.com/), seeking support and insights on enabling Canvas Commons within our environment.

Despite repeated attempts over the past month to engage Canvas Support via email, I have yet to receive any updates or resolutions regarding the visibility and activation of Commons in our Global Navigation bar. This feature is currently inaccessible to all user roles, including admins and teachers.

Specifically, I would appreciate guidance on the following:

  • The correct configuration steps to enable Canvas Commons in the Global Navigation menu.

  • Any prerequisite settings or permissions that need to be adjusted at the account or sub-account level.

  • Best practices or known issues that might delay or block Commons activation.

  • How to verify successful activation and provide Commons access to end-users.

Our goal is to leverage Canvas Commons as a strategic resource to streamline content sharing and collaboration across our institution.

Thank you in advance for your expert advice and support. Any insights or references to documentation, scripts, or workflows that can accelerate this enablement would be highly valuable.

Hi there, @MUKHALLALATI ...

It sounds like you need to reach out to your school's assigned Customer Success Manager (CSM) at Instructure.  Hopefully you know who that person is.  If not, please respond to this message, and I can try and reach out to Community Managers at Instructure to see if someone can follow-up with you so you can get in contact with a CSM.  Then, hopefully, the CSM will be able to get you access to Canvas Commons.

Good luck, and keep us posted!
