Hi all,
I'm an LMS admin, new to canvas, migrating from another LMS (Blackboard Learn). I have been testing Commons, and while it's got some interesting possibilities, the default permissions within the platform seem to be that any instructor can share anything they want in Commons, and it's available to users within my institution.
When an item is shared to Commons, it asks who they want to share it with, and the options are "myself" or "everyone (at institution)".
What I am hoping is to remove the second option for the average user, possibly grant it to some users, and otherwise only show content I approve of. I have seen the "approvers" list in the settings, however that seems to just control the ability to mark content as "institution approved". Whether the content is institution approved or not it seems to be shared.
I don't see any controls for this beyond what's in the admin menu for commons and being an external tool it doesn't seem to relate to any controls in the system role privileges.
Is this even possible or is it a known downside of Commons?
Thanks,
Brad
Hi @bbuege ,
To my knowledge, you cannot restrict users from sharing content unless it's directly to the public account.
Commons is an external tool which is not provided by default on Canvas (it's configured by a CSM at the request from the institution), so there won't be any settings at the normal account admin level, only inside of Commons specifically.
I hope this helps!
