I have been a 6 year user of Canvas and have changed school districts. My new school is stuck in the belief that Google Classroom is superior to Canvas and they are stuck in this belief. The district purchased Canvas for 2020-21 and but there are very few users. Very frustrating because I know how well it works when you get into it.
I have a complete curriculum for my classes and have published it to Commons.
My question is, "If my district drops Canvas for Powerschool or some other LMS, can I still manually create my classes and use Canvas for my class curriculum?"

Hello there, @bwphillippe ...
Sorry to read that you are in this situation at your school. I don't have any experience with Google Classroom, so I cannot speak to that. But, to answer your question, you could create a Free for Teachers account if your school decided to not move forward with Canvas as their LMS. Do you think that would work for your needs?
