Failure to create assignments

When attempting to create as assignment through the Canvas API I get an error -

No further details available, any idea on what is causing this error and how to get further details or how to resolve it?

Can you give as an example of what you are POSTing to the Create an assignment endpoint?

I'd cull that back to the bare minimum and try that first.

I don't think the id should be there -- that will be generated by Canvas when the assignment is created.  Might or might not matter, but if not needed leave it out.

Also, you have both submission_type and the submission_types array.  I cannot see the first in the docs.

Thanks for the suggestion, I can get it to succeed with all the attributes, except the external_tool_tag_attributes, the moment I specify it, I get an internal server error back from the API. If I remove it all works. It does not matter what url I specify in the url field of the external tool tag attribute. 

I should mention that the request works unmodified from the original on all other instances of Canvas except for this one specific schools Canvas, no matter which course is selected.
