Is there a timeline for ceasing support for LTI 1.1?

With IMS deprecating the OAuth 1.0A authentication mechanism used by LTI 1.0/1.1/1.2/2.0 last year (certification ceased 1 July 2021, see https://www.imsglobal.org/deprecation-notice-oauth-10a), I was wondering whether anyone knew of any plans to phase out these versions of LTI from the Canvas platform.  I am suspecting not, but would be very keen to know if there is.

With deprecation the development for the older LTI specifications will no longer get updates but still allows them to continue functioning.  If Instructure decides to go the next step of End of Life where the older LTI installations will be blocked from functioning or removed then hopefully Instructure will provide us all ample notice ahead of time to be able to update.  That may involve contacting third-party tool vendors and coordinating with end users to make the updates without too much interruption.  While I think most vendors seem to be offering LTI 1.3 support there may be community-based or free tools that may be a challenge to get the tool creator to update those.

I'm going to ask our CSM this same question. There have been a lot of requests directed to me from some of the more prominent 3rd party vendors within the last few weeks to ask us to upgrade to their respective LTI 1.3 implementation.

I'm unaware of any pressure that have been put on them directly from LMS vendors to move away/shut down their previous LTI implementations, so I'm guessing it's because they want to remain with the current spec. With that said, I also wonder what Instructure will do with their legacy LTI support altogether.

"Once we make a decision on a deprecation date for 1.1 we will give 12 months notice before we stop supporting 1.1 so that tools and schools have plenty of time to transition over. After that initial 12 months of support we anticipate another 12 months where the endpoints will still be available but not actively supported."
