Remove deleted courses from Canvas

Hello,

I'm working on a process to remove courses/sections that have already been deleted in Jenzabar but are still present in Canvas.

When I run the process, I have the courses files and the sections file with a "deleted" status for the courses/sections that needs to be deleted from Canvas.

The issue is when I run the SIS import, it doesn't go through and the error says that "There are orphaned sections" which from what I understand means that we are sending sections for which we are not sending the corresponding sections. After having that error, I updated the process so that deleted courses will also be in the Courses.csv file but I'm still having that error.

I also tried to create a Sections.csv and a Courses.csv file with only a couple of sections and courses to be deleted but even though the files are imported and in the Imported Items I can see "Sections: 2" and "Courses: 2", the courses are still in Canvas.

Anyone has an idea on what I'm not doing right?

@Fatou1 Is your goal to completely remove these courses and their sections from your Canvas instance? If so, you should reach out to your CSM. Currently, only Instructure can permanently remove courses.

Are you trying to have the courses/sections in the "deleted" workflow_state? Or, is your desire to have them physically deleted from Canvas (and beyond any type of in-LMS restore/recovery)? If the latter, your CSM is the way to go. I had to go through multiple levels of "Are you sure you want to do this?" with Instructure just to remove some test terms, etc., from our very early days with Canvas. If the former, how are they being "deleted" in the first place? Sections s/b "deleted" at the same time a course shell is.
