[Account Settings] Delay posting of grades "after hours" at the Admin level
Is is possible to delay posting of grades at the admin level so that they only become visible to students during certain times of day? Currently, Canvas allows teachers to manually post assignments (which can be posted and visible to students) at any time of the day). Principals have been encouraging teachers not to post grades after hours, but it has only been partially successful. Here is a concern voiced by many parents in our K-12 school district and why we are requesting this feature at the admin level: "We have a long held concern about how grades are reported online. Grades are often posted late at night or on weekends, which can cause stress and keep students glued to their phones, waiting for updates late at night and over weekends. Our students frequently check their phones for grades and often late into the evening, during family or friend time when waiting on an important grade. It is hard to tell them not to check as obviously you want them to care about their grades and a grade could pop up at anytime, even the middle of the night. While we understand that teachers are dedicated professionals who often work long hours, we wonder if it might be possible to implement a policy where grades are not posted publicly after a certain time in the evening, such as 5 or 6 p.m. and possibly consider not posting them on weekends. This approach could help students maintain a healthier balance, reducing the anxiety and pressure to be constantly plugged in and providing them with a clearer boundary between school responsibilities and personal time. If students knew the program would not post after a certain time it would keep them from feeling like they need to constantly check."
Provide admin with the ability to set times for grades to be posted within the institution. Why? This approach could help students maintain a healthier balance, reducing the anxiety and pressure to be constantly plugged in and providing them with a clearer boundary between school responsibilities and personal time. If students knew Canvas would not post grades after a certain time it would keep them from feeling like they need to constantly check.
