When choosing "Display grade as: Not graded" for an assignment in Canvas, the option to select a submission type is unavailable. This can be confusing for teachers who may want students to submit work but prefer not to grade it. Often, teachers select "Not graded" for Display grade as, and then look for the Submission type settings, only to find that these are no longer available.
To improve usability, Canvas should allow Submission type to be selected even when "Not graded" is chosen, or provide a clear notification indicating that Submission type cannot be set in this configuration.
