[Assignments] Capping Gradebook Categories/Assignments

Problem statement:

I would like to place point caps on grade categories and maybe individual assignments as well. In many of my grade categories, I have more points available than a student needs, so students don't have to pick up eveyr point to demonstrate their mastery of a skill or topic. For instance, I have regular Citation Drills where students demonstrate their ability to locate a source, cite it, and provide a summary and evaluation. These are worth 10 points, and there are 8 of them in a term. Students need to pick up 40 points in this category by the end of the term. Presently, I either have to set the C-Drill grade category 0% weight and have a separate grade category where I manually enter the totals and cap it at 40. Else, I have to flag each individual C-Drill as "does not count toward grade" (which confuses the students), and then manually enter the sums (capped at 40) in another gradebook column. This is tedious and leads to a lot of confusion. I would also like to be able to set point caps on individual assignments, which I have posted about before, but that is less needful.

Proposed solution:

I want the gradebook to add up all the points in the category, but to stop counting at a certain given number. That way, I don't have to manage extra manual entries, and my students don't have a lot of excess info on their gradebook pages. If I can set such a limitation in an Excel spreadsheet, I should be able to set it in Canvas.
