[Assignments] streamline the Assignment submission procedure

Problem statement:

Two problems with the UX for the Canvas Assignment submission page: First, when submitting an assignment, the student sees a button that reads "Upload file." After clicking that, there's a second button that reads "Choose file." Next to "Choose file" is a message that reads "No file chosen." Requiring two button clicks is cumbersome, confusing, and inefficient. (The message "No file chosen" is confusing, too—because the student is just about to choose a file!) The second problem is that files can only uploaded one at a time. Some courses (like art classes) require multiple file submissions. Uploading only one file at a time is also cumbersome and inefficient.

Proposed solution:

The student should only have to click once on a single button ("Upload"). Eliminate the "Choose file" button; it's not necessary. Ideally, the "Upload" button would allow a student to drag-and-drop one or multiple files right from their own drive, à la Google Drive or Dropbox. So, to sum up: The Assignment submission page should have just one button ("Upload"), which would allow multiple files to be uploaded at once via either standard file directory selection or drag-and-drop. Thanks!

Hi @mariva -

Thank you for sharing this idea with the Community! You bring up wonderful points, but because both of these requests are already possible in Assignment Enhancements, we are not advancing this thread in the Ideas & Themes process.

While Assignment Enhancements is an opt-in feature, we hope you and your local administrator are open to checking it out! It has lots of great features and improves the user experience for students.

What is Assignment Enhancements?

How do I upload a file as an assignment submission for a course using Assignment Enhancements?
