[Attendance] Automatically send notifications to students and instructors/TAs

Problem statement:

We have a mandatory attendance policy at our school (many instructors have such policies in their courses even when the school itself does not have a school-wide policy). Currently, attendance at every different class has to be checked manually, and then the instructor (or TA) has to send the student a notice about further policy actions.

Proposed solution:

It would be great if I could enter the number of unexcused / allowed absences for a course into Canvas, and then have Canvas send both me and the student a notification when they go over the allowed number of absences (in particular, the Canvas software could monitor the absent-scan category). Additionally, it would be great if this were connected to a participation or attendance grade (which the instructor could configure with policy parameters), and that absences over the allowed limit automatically changed the student's participation/attendance grade. Thanks.

Problem statement:

Keeping track of attendance is very time intensive, and the display of attendance in Canvas is tricky to review. (I can't easily scroll back to check when the last date of attendance for in-person courses is)

Proposed solution:

In the style of "message students who" in the gradebook, it would be great if attendance could send an auto message after students have missed a set number courses and/or courses in a row. This would alert the student and instructor that they've been missing and can help trigger interventions.
