[Canvas Student - Mobile] freeform highlighter or opacity pen tool needed

Problem statement:

The highlighter tool in the Canvas app on the iPad only allows the student to highlight in-line text. They can not use the highlighter freely when completing a student annotation assignment. For example, if asked to color 3/4 of a rectangle when studying fractions, they can only use the pen tool. Since there is not an option to change the opacity of the pen tool, coloring 3/4 of a rectangle will color over the parts of the rectangle making it hard to gauge 3/4 of it. Our district uses iPads K-12. All students use Canvas's dedicated student iPad app.

Proposed solution:

For the Canvas Student app, when completing a 'student annotation' assignment, please either: • add a highlighter that allows students to highlight freely • allow the opacity of the pen tool to be adjusted Either of these options is definitely needed for your schools using iPads. Both ClassKick, Seesaw, and our prior LMS all had a highlighter that allowed students to highlight freely.
