When a person is a member of a group, they will see the note "Course Groups" and a hyperlink to the group homepage. Students often overlook this and do not even know that they are a member of a group. Unfortunately, the notifications do not help.
Highlight the information about course groups. Perhaps you could consider placing it in the course navigation bar? And better "My Course Groups", the "Course Groups" looks like it concerns other people. If it remains on the left side of the home page, it should be clearly highlighted, perhaps with a clear border, icon, etc.
