The Instructure Product Team is working on implementing a better solution to collect your feedback. Read Shiren's blog for more information.
When a user has the rich content editor open for adding a reply to a Canvas discussion post and they intentionally or accidentally collapse the thread, they lose their in-progress reply. For example, an instructor is responding to a student's discussion post in the top thread. The instructor has written the majority of their post and, intentionally or not, they click the "Hide X Replies" on the thread. Their in-progress response is lost.
In other places in Canvas, one of two safeguards exists: > A warning about leaving the page without saving content > A temporary browser cache of the content, and the next time the user opens the page they are asked if they want to restore content that wasn't saved Since the user isn't necessarily navigating away from the discussion page, I am not sure if either of these could be built into the page. So perhaps a third safeguard could be created that prevents a user from collapsing a thread if they have a content within the reply RCE and instead, attempting to collapse the thread triggers a modal asking the user to confirm if they want to discard their work.
