When users in our Canvas instance have been assigned a admin type role at the root account, it doesn't allow them to be added to a professional development course as a student. We have our curriculum writers at the Harford County Public Schools root account with the ability to copy courses, blueprint courses, etc. When these users are enrolled in a course as a student, they still have the admin permissions instead of viewing the course as a student. We have PD that we would like these users to take, but they can't. I asked our CSM and she was wonderful with consulting with the Canvas team to see if there is a work around, but that would require the users to use a different email address for logging into Canvas (since we have SSO).
When users (those with admin permissions at our root account and are enrolled ) login to Canvas, they should be given an option, login as an admin or login as a student. When they select student they will only have student access and can complete PD courses as a student. In Clever, we have many users who are enrolled as "staff" members since they aren't associated with a class in our district. A reading specialist is a good example. I have to manually create a "teacher" role for this person so they can have access as a teacher and view certain apps. When they login, they select either teacher or staff. Depending on which they select when they login, determine what permissions they have when they access Clever. Having the ability to login as a true student will allow our staff to complete a course and earn credit for the renewal of their teaching certificate. Currently, they can't get credit when they enroll in a Kick-Up/Canvas course or a regular PD course since they can't complete it as a student.
