[Files] Settings on "file" folder and navigation

Problem statement:

I have a lot of files in my "files" folder that I do not want students to see; therefore, I removed the link to the "files" from the student navigation pane. As a result, anything I load to the course gets assigned as "only students with the link can view" as opposed to it being "un/published." I am unable to change this setting. This means that when I copy this course in the future, none of the items I loaded work any longer. I chatted with the help desk moments ago and the person helping me said there is no work around. I would have to upload every document, every semester, and relink everything in the page/assignment where it needs to appear.

Proposed solution:

Please allow me to keep the "files tab" hidden from student view and still be able to make documents available for students without having to reload them every single semester.

How do you copy your course content?

If you do a full-course copy, all of the links to the files (and their settings) should be duplicated as designed.

How do I copy a Canvas course into a new course shell? 

How do I restrict files and folders to students in Canvas? 

 

If you're selecting only specific content, it may be that you need to select the item and the file to make those connections exist in the new course.

How do I copy content from another Canvas course using the Course Import tool? 

Having some additional information about your workflow would be very helpful for the Community Team and the Product Team. Thank you!
