[Mobile - Canvas Student] Include assigned pages in student To Do list

Problem statement:

Currently, our instructors utilize a feature in Canvas to add pages to the student to-do list, enhancing student awareness of upcoming assignments and events. However, this functionality is not supported in the Canvas mobile app, which the majority of our students use on school-issued iPads. This lack of support poses a challenge as teachers expect students to see the assigned pages on their to-do lists in the app, leading to potential confusion and missed deadlines.

Proposed solution:

To address this issue and ensure consistency between the Canvas browser and mobile experiences, we propose enhancing the mobile app to support the inclusion of pages in the student to-do list. Specifically, when a teacher selects the assignment option to include a page in the student's to-do list, these pages should automatically populate in the to-do list section of the mobile app. By implementing this solution, we can improve student awareness of course requirements and facilitate smoother navigation of assignments and events across both platforms.

Benefits:

  • Improved student awareness: Students will have a comprehensive view of upcoming assignments and events, promoting better time management and organization.
  • Consistency across platforms: Ensuring feature parity between the Canvas browser and mobile app enhances usability and reduces confusion for both instructors and students.
  • Enhanced student success: By providing students with clear visibility of course requirements, we can support their academic success and overall learning experience. We believe that implementing this solution will address a critical functionality gap in the Canvas mobile app and contribute to the overall effectiveness of our online learning environment.
