When an item bank is shared with users or with other courses, there is no way to detach them. This can cause many problems when using shared item banks:
- ISSUE 1. If a change is made in one of the shared item banks, the change is also shown in the main item banks, and vice versa. A teacher can use this feature to adjust an item to their course, for example. This change may remain in their item bank, not in the other shared banks, so as the other teacher may not want this change to be done in theirs’.
- ISSUE 2. If the parent bank is deleted, the child banks are deleted, and vice versa. This can cause many problems. For example, teachers who share a subject but have different courses in Canvas can delete each other’s item banks. Even though a warning message is shown, this problem can happen.
- ISSUE 3. If an item bank is deleted, it cannot be recovered. Therefore, you have to start from the beginning. Is there any way for shared item banks not to be liked forever? This problem can be also solved if we had this feature in Canvas.
EXPECTED BEHAVIOR (issue 1): We would like teachers to make changes to the shared item banks without affecting the rest of the banks. EXPECTED BEHAVIOR (for issues 2 and 3): As any other resource or activity in the course can be recovered, we would like the item banks to be available to be recovered to.
