Here are a couple issue we have run into because this feature does not exist. -Required census assignments due at the beginning of the semester must be submitted before later modules unlock, preventing us from testing or troubleshooting those later modules as the Test Student when issues happen. -Instructors often lock assignments after their due dates, so to continue testing, we have to manually unlock an assignment, submit it as the Test Student, and then relock it, just to access the next module. Having the ability to click a button on an assignment as the Test Student to simulate a submission made to an assignment would help us be able to full utilize this feature in Canvas.
I propose adding a button on assignments, quizzes, and discussions that would be available only when using the Test Student feature. This button would allow users to bypass required prerequisites that currently prevent instructors and Canvas admins from accessing later modules once due dates have passed and modules have locked. Implementing this feature would be extremely helpful for instructors who need to see what students experience in later modules of their courses, as well as for Canvas admins who need to troubleshoot issues reported by students more efficiently.
