Canvas adoption isn’t just about completing the technical setup - it’s about building lasting, meaningful use across your institution. As a Senior Learning Consultant at Instructure, I’ve supported dozens of institutions during their most critical implementation years. Whether in 1:1 consultations or while preparing for my InstructureCon25 session, Kickstarting Your Institution’s Canvas Usage, I’ve consistently heard the same concern from admins and instructional leaders:
“We rolled out Canvas - but we’re not seeing the traction we expected.”
Or worse: “We made this investment, but adoption is limited to a few early users. It’s not living up to our goals, and leadership is questioning whether we chose the right platform.”
These conversations - whether in formal strategy sessions or hallway chats at conferences - reveal a common challenge: after the launch, many institutions are left without a clear instructional strategy. Without a thoughtful adoption plan, momentum fades, usage stalls, and leadership begins to lose confidence in the platform.
That’s often when someone like me gets called in - to diagnose what’s not working, realign the vision, and design a strategic roadmap for long-term success. As consultants, we’ve seen this pattern across all kinds of learning environments - and we know it doesn’t have to be this way.
