Submission/Rubric button is gone

I just updated my Canvas Student app to 7.1.2 and student no longer have the submission and rubric button in an assignment until they submit the assignment.  This is taking away functionality that I was using prior to the update where I would have students click on submission and rubric ---> comments and leave me a comment as to why they didn't submit the assignment.  Please fix this!

Thanks for posting this in the Canvas Community! 

I understand that you are seeing an odd behavior with students viewing Rubric criteria prior to submitting on the Canvas student app. 

I tested this on my end and also saw the same behavior with the iOS student app! It might be worth reaching out to Canvas support to see if they have identified any known issues related to this behavior. They might need a link to the assignment where the behavior is occurring and an example of a student who has not submitted to the assignment yet. 

Let us know what you find out on this!
