Creating a Portfolio as a part of an Accredited Program

We are very excited about the Portfolios available with this new feature option. Originally, we were thinking that the Evaluation Portfolio is what we needed just considering the implication by it's name. However we are finding it limited on creation, sharing and development over the life of a program.

Use case: Students are a part of an accredited program that requires evidence of work, improvement, and self assessment as a part of the accreditation of the program.

Ideas:

  • Template for Showcase Portfolio to prompt students to build their portfolio with items across program courses.  This would contain sections for each phase of the program prompting for specific evidence from the courses they will attend. As they move through the courses they are able to add submissions from courses that provide evidence of competency or completion. they would also have sections for professional experience/internship/growth, project evidence, and self reflection/assessment. It doesn't seem that an Evaluation Portfolio can be built for future courses and students lose access to past courses (at our institution) so the Evaluation Portfolio seems more like an assignment across courses, that limits instructors not in all those courses from viewing the work.
  • Allow sharing of student submission by student. The limitation of sharing the actual submission leaves the student with the option of uploading a submission they have either saved in a personal file or a screenshot of the submission from the course. If the submission is in the student's user files in Canvas could they have an option to mark the submission "viewable with the link" or something similar so that they would be viewable from the Portfolio?

Thanks for opening this feature up for use!
