As an Administrator, how can I set a specific Grading Scale in the Settings menu (Grading Scheme), to become a default for all my organization?

Hi All.

I have just been made an Admin within my organization (CEA CAPA International Education).

In order to avoid that single faculty teaching courses might run the risk to not have the correct Grading Scale set in the Settings menu of their courses, I would like to set a specific one to become a default for the entire organization and for all courses either created from scratch or updated from previous semesters.

I searched in all your super thorough and useful Guides (also in the one dedicated to Administrators, see here at https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Admin-Guide/Admin-Getting-Started-Resources/ta-p/579393), but I could not find the information I was and I am currently looking for.

Thanking you in advance for your support, I wish you a pleasant day.

Hi @GuidoReverdito,

You can set a custom default grading scheme within your Canvas hierarchy at the account or sub-account level, ensuring consistency across all courses. Only account admins can edit, archive, or delete account-level grading schemes.

The guide below will direct you to the area in Canvas where you can make these changes. Look for the "Account default grading scheme" dropdown.

How do I view and manage grading schemes in an account?

Happy to help @GuidoReverdito. Below is the information provided in Canvas for the behavior of account vs sub-account schemes:

This grading scheme will be the default for all courses in the account. Individual courses can override it with their own default. Sub accounts will inherit the default grading scheme from their parent account unless overridden.

So when in a course or sub-account you will not need to select a new scheme if you are using the account default. If you are in a sub-account, you would only be able to select from schemes you create in that sub-account.
