[ARCHIVED] Assignment Resubmission

My professor had unlocked an assignment for me to resubmit a corrected version of my paper but it's not allowing me to resubmit.  Is there a way for me to do so?

Hi @AnthonyYanez ,

In order for you to resubmit an assignment, your instructor needs to do two things:

• Change the dates of the Assignment if the "availability date" has already passed.
• Change the number of submissions allowed.

More than likely, your instructor has done one, but not both steps. I would suggest contacting your instructor. It might be helpful to send him/her a screenshot of what you see.

@KristinL  - My guess is that Anthony's professor just clicked on "Resubmit Assignment" in SpeedGrader without realizing that he/she/they needed to edit the Assignment to allow for an additional submission.

This is a real "miss" with this feature. The "Resubmit Assignment" button should go ahead and automatically give that individual student one more submission. It should work like giving "an extra attempt" does in Quizzes. 

Here are the two issues with this design flaw:

1. Many instructors don't realize that they have to "Edit" the original assignment to allow for another submission. Having two steps instead of one always creates more room for error.
2. If the availability date is still open for the assignment, other students may take advantage of the extra submission opportunity even though it was intended for one student. I've written about the headache this has caused for me this semester. 

This is not a new concern. There has already been an "Idea Conversation" created to address it. Here, we have a real student unable to resubmit his assignment because his instructor doesn't understand how to correctly set it up. The whole process should be more intuitive and simpler.
