I want to add to my calendar. My name appears and other courses but when I go to add an event in anything other than my name it does not appear on the drop down box.

It sounds like you're a student. Only teachers can add events directly to courses, as that is part of course content. Students can add events to their own personal calendars, but not to the calendars for courses in which they are enrolled as students.

If you're a teacher, please let us know so we can continue to help you troubleshoot.

In that case, if you're enrolled in those courses as a teacher,  @wendy_markwood ‌, and as long as the courses haven't been concluded to teacher participation, you should be able to add events. Are you using the instructions in How do I add an event to a course calendar? after enabling the courses in the calendar as described in the View Calendar List section of https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-12911-how-do-i-use-the-calendar-as-an-instructor
