[ARCHIVED] Canvas gradebook showing missing assignments when not all students are required to turn in.

Hi, this situation keeps coming up, so I'm wondering if anyone has a work around:

• Student assignment requires them to either attend a webinar or write a summary.
• Assignment allows text entry for students who need to submit the summary.
• Students who attend the webinar show missing assignment because they won't be submitting anything.
• Assignments continue to show as "missing" in gradebook, and on the student side even after they receive points for attending.

This is a 100% online course so accepting assignments on paper is not an option.  I don't want to do it through email as that causes other issues. 

Any ideas?
