Creating a Likert Scale Survey BUT also aligning it to Outcomes

Hello,

I am an admin and have a request to create a survey with a Likert scale.  I've seen information regarding how to do this w/ quizzes.  What I am not finding, however, is if there is some way to align the questions to the outcomes.

The teacher would like to do a pre-professional development survey and a post survey.  They would like to use the Learning Mastery Charts to demonstrate how mastery of concepts have (hopefully) improved when the professional development is finished.

Here is an example of a question:  

Q:  I feel confident applying state protocols, tools, and guidance documents within the PPT process.

1 – Not at all confident
2 – Slightly confident
3 – Somewhat confident
4 – Confident
5 – Very confident

An answer of 5 would be Mastery, 4- near mastery, 3 - below mastery (and so on)

Is there a way to align outcomes in this way?  In a survey such as this, there is no "wrong" answer but that seems to be how outcomes and quizzes work:  correct or incorrect answer.

Does anyone have experience with this?  If not, have you displayed data in a different way?

There are lots of different ways that you might be able to address this, in and out of the Canvas set up.

Within Canvas you could try the following:

• Quizzes - set the questions with the likert scale as multiple choice options and if they score above a certain number that connects to the mastery
• Assignments - create a pre/post assignment with no submission, each assignment would have the same rubrics which are linked to the outcomes - with the grading based on the likert scale. These could be used for self assessment and reflection and connected to the canvas outcomes

Outside of Canvas

• MS Forms/Google Forms - create a pre/post form with the same questions, which can be embedded into Canvas. The data from these questionnaires could be analysed
• Other survey tool e.g. Survey Monkey.

Thank you for the suggestions Jen!  I've decided to give each answer under the question a different point value.  This will give me a sense for where the student rates themselves on the Likert scale.  I do not think I will be able to align outcomes with the questions however.  Since I have a separate pre and post survey with identical questions, the Learning Mastery Gradebook would display the data as a combination of both the pre and post survey.  A workaround could be creating another set of outcomes that are identical but with a different name and aligning it with only the post survey.  This is a little too cumbersome though.  I'll settle for just comparing the quiz reports (and possibly designing some chart formulas in Excel).
