Hi there, my institution has guides on how to create Group assessments and they have this warning: "Ensure that you do not change the membership of groups *after* you have created the assignment. This will cause the assignment to revert to an *individual* assignment and cannot be reversed!".
This seems problematic because for most subjects that we teach, we set up the assessments months in advance when we populate the Canvas course, and all of the Canvas pages/assessments are already finalised by the time we enrol students. It's also possible that topic coordinators may rearrange student groups if students withdraw from the course.
I've tried to find information about this in Instructure's forums and guides, but I can't find any reference to this outside of my organisation. I'm wondering therefore if this warning may be outdated, because I'm sure there are many instances of Groups being created after the Assessments.
Would the solution be to leave the assessment as an individual assignment until student groups are formed? The only risk there is that students may attempt to submit it individually before Groups are created.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Hi @ClunyMcConville -- yes, I think the warning provided may be a little confusing.
I think if you have the Assignments set up (but the Group Assignment setting is not Checked until it is actually assigned) you should be ok.
