Dividing content within a class

I am attempting to set up courses for next year and I am unsure how to handle setting up a class for a small number of students in my class.  Students are allowed to come back to my class as a second year student.  As a second year student they can choose a path they want to take within the class.  For instance, a student can choose security, networking or servers.  I would like to set up a course for all of my second year students, but within that course provide content only pertinent to their chosen path.  What is the best way to handle this?  Can I set up a section for each of the paths and add the student to that section only?  Will this make only those modules/assignments available to that student?  Is there a better solution to accomplish this?

@JohnHughes  as if by magic you have read my mind! I too have the same issue with one course but multiple small groups accessing. Ideally I'd like them to view different content paths ... I can see how to use sections with assignments and quizzes and learning content which has a "turn in/ return/ hand in" from the students but can't see how to keep the modules (pages/ files/ etc) separate. Any suggestions would be most helpful.
