How do I change the course picture for a course?

I noticed some of my classmates have personalized their canvas dashboard by putting their own images on the canvas courses. I have read up on how to do it, but my classes lack the "Settings" button on the the side of the course when you click on it. Every tutorial, including on this site and YouTube, mention using the "Settings" button to change the course. Basically, is there any way to add a picture on the course without that "Settings" button on the left side of the screen? Thanks.

Instructors can add a custom image to their course cards that appear on the Canvas Dashboard.  This image would show up for students as well when they log in to Canvas.  You can add an image by following the steps in this Guide:
