Hello  @mjpetrinipoli  and welcome to the Community!  Are you able to locate your groups in Canvas?  If not you might check out this guide for assistance, How do I view my Canvas groups as a student? Once in the group you could create a discussion if you like (see How do I create a discussion in a group? ) and you should also be able to contact those in your group, see the other members of your group, and since you have a class together, use the Inbox to contact everyone (see How do I use the Inbox as a student?).
